The Art of the Fresh Start

by Glenna Salsbury

Be Heard NOW! By Lee Glickstein

Lee Glickstein is the founder of Transformational Speaking and that he does. There are many times when we may be called to speak before a group, formally or informally-some look forward to the experience, while others face their biggest fear. I first learned of Lee's work when I was invited to participate in a Speaking Circle. That experience and the information in this book have played an important part in honing my skills and abilities for speaking and in other areas of my life and work. The concepts presented show you how to overcome the fear of public speaking, communicate with greater ease and show up more authentically. Wow! What a gift Lee gives us.

The Corporate Mystic: A Guidebook for Visionaries With Their Feet On The Ground by Gay Hendricks, Ph.D. and kate Ludeman, Ph.D.

This book literally jumped off the shelf as I walked by it. What a gift this turned out to be. The Corporate Mystic is based on Gay and Kate's consulting work and observations, along with in-depth conversations with several hundred such people. The authors offer this simple definition: "Corporate Mystics are those who operate from a base of integrity, pursue their vision with passion and compassion, and evoke the full potential of those with whom they come in contact." Another common characteristic is that they honor their intuition.

The first part of this book focuses on interviews with selected people that offer the depth and breadth of what Corporate Mystics bring to the workplace. The second part focuses on several common workplace problems along with their respective solutions. I love this book for a variety of reasons including its straightforward approach, practical information and the willingness to discuss things that had previously been kept quiet. Also, as a bonus, you gain insights into The Seven Radical Rules for Business Success.

Enlightened Leadership: Getting to the Heart of Change by Ed Oakley and Doug Krug

Well this book has been on the top of my book-of-the-month list since I first discovered it in 1996. The information is just as relevant today as ever. In my opinion this book should be on everyones bookshelf. The authors have done a terrific job of bringing forward specific, practical tools, tips and resources that work equally well in the workplace, your personal life and with teenagers.

The first part of the book focuses on how to get people to move toward what they want instead of what they dont want. The second part focuses on the use of effective questions. There is a specific protocol for effective questions along with tips on how to listen effectively. Several benefits arise from asking effective questions including: shifting from problems to solution seeking; becoming more innovative; taking initiative; increasing productivity and improving effectiveness on all levels.

Points to PonderSM

Change. It has the power to uplift, to heal, to stimulate, surprise, open new doors, bring fresh experience and create excitement in life. Certainly it is worth the risk.

Leo Buscaglia

If you're in business, you need a responsive market, competency,
and passion to succeed. If you're not succeeding, don't blame others
or the fates. Change your market, change your skills, or change your attitude.

Alan Weiss, Ph.D.

The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but has no vision.

This is it for September. Until next time, may you uncover many gifts and blessings, from the above and within yourself.
